Conjoined twins to get free of cost treatment services

SAHIWAL: In response to a Geo TV report about the birth of conjoined twins in Sahiwal, many individuals and organizations have come forward to offer their help for the treatment of babies.

A mother has given birth to conjoined twins at a hospital in District Sahiwal. According to hospital management, the twins are joined at the head.

Surayya Bibi, a resident of Chak-104 located in the outskirts of Sahiwal, was brought to the hospital on Saturday night. She underwent an ultrasound, which revealed that she was expecting twins, who were joined at head.

The doctors went for the operation and saved the babies, but their heads were still joined.

The doctors said that twins could be separated provided they were not sharing the brain.

On the other hand, Surayya Bibi said she could not afford the treatment, which could cost at least Rs4 to Rs5 lac. She appealed to government to bear the hospital expenses.

The national airline Pakistan International Airline has announced it will provide free travel services to shift the family to any city for the purpose of treatment.

Jinnah Hospital Lahore Neurosurgeon Dr. Zafar Iqbal and Plastic Surgeon Dr. Moazaam Tarrar have also offered to operate the twins for free of cost. They said separating heads is a difficult job, but they will utilize their best of abilities to do so.

While Pakistan Baitul Mal MD Zamarrud Khan has also announced to bear the treatment expenses of the twins.

FC Balochistan official said that they would make all arrangements to shift the parents of twins to Karachi for the purpose of treatment.

Maluana Abdul Ghafoor laid to rest

KARACHI: Jamaat Ahle-Sunnat Central Secretary Information Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Nadeem was laid to rest at the premises of Masjid Sadiq-e-Akbar in Karachi.

Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Nadeem was injured on Thursday in Nazimabad after unidentified gunmen had opened fire at his vehicle. The firing had killed his son Maawia Nadeem and left his other son and two gunmen injured.

Since then he was under treatment at a hospital. However, he succumbed to injuries and died on Sunday morning.

A large number of people attended his funeral led by Ahle Sunnat-o-al-Jamaat Maulana Ahmed Ludhyanvi. The followers of Maulana Ghafoor chanted anti-government slogans after the funeral prayers.

Later, addressing a hurriedly called conference, Maulana Ludhyanvi called for immediate resignation of Interior Minister Rehman Malik.

He said: ?My party has no connection with terrorism. We are also victims of terrorism.?

He also announced to observe complete strike on Friday against the killing.

2 hurt as PML-N, PML-Q activists clash in Gujrat

GUJRAT: The activists of Pakistan Muslim League-N and Pakistan Muslim League-Q clashed during electoral campaign in Gujrat constituency PP-111, injuring two people.

The clash erupted at a time when the workers of two parties were meeting with traders at Muslim Bazaar.

PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that his party?s workers Shoaib Waqar and Zahoor Ahmed sustained injuries after PML-N activists attacked them with sticks.

On this the PML-Q supporters staged demonstration and submitted application at Shah Dola Police Station to register a case.

On the other hand, MNA Saad Rafiq and Senator Pervaiz Rashid of the PML-N said that the PML-Q had started clashes under a plan and now they trying to file a false case by hurting their activists themselves.

Munawar terms Nawaz, Zardari two sides of forged coin

JACOBABAD: Jammat-e-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hasan Sunday described PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari as two sides of a forged coin.

Addressing a public gathering here on Sunday, Hasan said that Pakistan?s bank would be full of money and people would also get rid of poverty if Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari brought their money back to the country.

?Both leaders are acting on the dictation of the United States, he said, adding that Nawaz Sharif is awaiting his turn now.?

?These two are two sides of a forged coin.?

Hasan said Pakistan is not a poor country, but the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is trying to turn it into a poor state.

Punjab law enforcers alerted against terror threats

LAHORE: Punjab Home Department has alerted the police and other law enforcers against threats of terrorist activities in the sensitive locations in Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Lahore and directed them to take effective measures in this regard.

A circular issued by the Punjab Home Department stated that a group of suicide bombers has been prepared to target Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Lahore. The group has been provided with suicide jackets and RCIDs, it said.

A terrorist code named Asadullah has been given an anti-aircraft machine gun and ZGO gun. These guns have been mounted on a hill top for attacking law enforcers.

Troops kill 13 militants in Orakzai Agency

PESHAWAR: Security forces backed by helicopter gunships pounded Taliban hideouts in Orakzi Agency Sunday, killing at least 11 militants, officials said.

The shelling destroyed three militant hideouts and two houses of Taliban commanders in the Orakzai region.

According to sources, the gunships targeted hideouts in Ferozkhel, a village on the outskirts of Kalyal, the main town in Orakzai region. The demolished houses of the two Taliban commanders were also being used as militant training centres, said sources.

At least 11 militants were killed in the attacks.

?PML-N, ANP yet to reach consensus on NWFP name?

PESHAWAR: Awami National Party leader Haji Adeel said Sunday Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) and Awami National Party (ANP) could not reach a consensus on renaming of North Western Frontier Province (NWF).

A final decision in this regard would be taken at a meeting between PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif and ANP leader Asfandyar Wali Khan.

In an exclusive chat with Geo TV, ANP senior Vice President and member of Constitutional Reforms Committee (CRC) Senator Haji Adeel said the committee has made recommendation to fix the tenure of State Bank Governor, Chief Election Commissioner and ombudsman and then not to give any extension.

Besides, a consensus was also reached to change the structure of Council of Common Interests (CCI), he said.

However, Adeel said that large parties were opposing the provincial autonomy.

The ANP leader said that delay in renaming of NWFP was being witnessed due to the PML-N.

Bus-van collision claims 16 lives in Sehwan Sharif

SEHWAN SHARIF: A bus packed with pilgrims collided with a passenger van near Sehwan Sharif, killing 16 people and injuring 45 others.

The pilgrims were returning to Hyderabad from Sehwan Sharif after making a visit to the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.

The bus had a head-on collision with the van at Laki Sadar Shah. As a result at least 16 people lost their lives besides 45 others were injured.

Children and women were among the dead.

The dead and injured were shifted to the Sehwan Sharif Hospital, where emergency was declared.

PML-N rejected foreign dictation: Shahbaz

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said Sunday that Pakistan Muslim League-N had refused to accept the external dictation and stood strong before Musharraf.

?If this is the stance of Taliban, then they should not carry out terrorism in Punjab,? Shahbaz said this while speaking at Mufti Muhammad Hussain Naeemi seminar in Jamia Naeemia Garhishah.

The chief minister said that Punjab was being punished for its anti-Musharraf policies. He said that the history would not forgive religious leaders if they did not find a way to counter terrorism.

?We have no clash with the United States, but our party took a strong position against Kerry-Lugar Bill,? he said.

The Parliament should be given time to perform, he said, urging the nation to adopt a common agenda to move forward.

Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman and senior journalist Hamid Mir also addressed the participants.

They slammed both major parties for having support of banned outfits to win by-election in Jhang and Bahawalnagar.
